The oldest inland club in Yorkshire

And home of the East Riding Union

Compete for the oldest trophy in Yorkshire –  The Beverley and East Riding Challenge Cup

This impressive piece of silverware is called simply The Challenge Cup and it was first played for in April 1893 – four years after our club was founded.

This year it will be held on Friday, August 13th

Clubs from all over Yorkshire are invited to send teams of four amateur players to this Stableford competition, the winners being the team with the lowest total score.

The trophy has featured in the Pocklington Post

Beverley & East Riding Golf Club

Beverley and East Riding Golf Club was formed in 1889 – making it the oldest inland club in Yorkshire!
The club is based on the glorious Beverley Westwood pasture land, famous for its landmark Black Mill and Anti-Mill, which our traditional-style Clubhouse is built around.
The 18-hole course is one of Yorkshire’s finest and most natural layouts, enjoying outstanding views of the town and surrounding countryside from many vantage points.
The club is adhering to government and England Golf Union COVID-19 restrictions and advice for playing safe golf.
Visitors are welcome at selected times, and we require you to adhere to safe golf COVID-19 restrictions.

Beverley and East Riding Golf Club is Safe Golf accredited

Lockdown Restrictions

As you are all aware, the Government has eased many of the restrictions placed upon us because of the pandemic. England Golf has also updated its guidance to golf clubs.

Having looked at the situation, the Directors have made the following decisions which will be reviewed on a regular basis.

  • Bunkers: The current rules regarding bunkers will remain in operation i.e. placing within six inches and leave the bunker as tidy as possible after use. Rakes will not be placed out just yet.
  • Flagsticks: England Golf has stated that flagsticks can now be removed. We would request that members leave the flags in.
  • Roll-Ups: Again, an emotive subject in view of the removal of restrictions on group numbers. The situation regarding roll-ups will be reviewed as soon as possible and further information released as soon as possible.

Welcome to Beverley and East Riding Golf Club. Founded in 1889, we are the oldest inland golf club in Yorkshire.

Set amongst the rolling pastures of Beverley Westwood in the shadows of Beverley racecourse the course offers superb views towards the town of Beverley and the historic Beverley Minster. Beverley and East Riding Golf Club offers a great test of golf and fantastic value with 18 unique holes which make the most of the natural landscape of the Westwood. Add in the experience of playing golf amongst grazing cattle and playing on some of the best greens in the County, we are sure you will enjoy your game on the Westwood.

If you’re thinking of joining a golf club, I would urge you to look no further than Beverley which we believe represents fantastic value for money. Equally, if you’re looking for somewhere to play as a visitor, we are sure you will find a day on the Westwood a great experience and fantastic value.

We have a well-stocked golf shop and catering is available from the Marne Restaurant in our comfortable bar.

Our highly regarded and experienced PGA professional Paul Gibson will be happy to answer any questions you may have in organising your day out and who knows, he may also unlock the secrets of your golf swing!

I look forward to seeing you out on the course soon. Enjoy your golf.

Captain 2021

Beverley and East Riding Golf Club

I am honoured to be representing Beverley and East Riding Golf Club as Lady Captain in 2021 and I look forward to working with Barbara Hawley, my fantastic Lady Vice-Captain.

We offer a warm welcome to new members and visiting teams alike. We have a great membership at Beverley, many of whom are long-standing members. They all are appreciated and valued and their warmth and helpfulness set them apart. We offer various types of membership; should you wish to join us. Our aim is to be inclusive and encouraging to golfers of all abilities and I hope that this year we can look forward to a long, warm summer with some excellent golfing!

Our beautiful course on the Westwood has wonderful views from every aspect of the course. The course is unique and you will find friendly and helpful support in our golf shop and a warm welcome in the clubhouse.

The Ladies have reserved tees on Tuesdays when we play competitions for medals, trophies and sometimes just for fun. Our ladies also play at weekends and have regular roll-ups on Fridays.

Last year I took on the role of Women in Golf Champion and I am proud that the Club has achieved Women in Golf Charter status. It is our aim to continue to make the development of Women and Young People in Golf a key priority in 2021.

My chosen Charity for 2021 is Bundles of Joy. Bundles of Joy is a charity based in Beverley that has been set up to support our most vulnerable babies, children and families throughout Beverley, Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. I also hope to raise funds to further develop the Ladies’ Locker room.

I am looking forward to working with our Captain, Shaun Leach, Vice-Captain, Pat Howdle, President Brendan O’Connor and the new Board of Directors. Thank you to everyone, in particular all the volunteers, who work so hard behind the scenes on behalf of our wonderful Club.

Finally, I would like to wish everybody a happy golfing year!
