Welcome to my latest newsletter. As winter closes in the amount of news to share becomes less and less. However, I am sure those of you playing this week will have noticed the markings around the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 11th holes in preparation for the contractor to commence work next work on those holes, weather permitting. If the finished article reflects the complexity of the markings I am sure we are in for a treat when complete! On a serious note, however, can I just reinforce what has been said previously and ask members to be vigilant and respectful of the greens staff working around the course.
On to golf matters now and I am pleased to report that Paul Gibson and myself have resumed the charity challenge matches, playing three in the last month with victories against the pairings of Kevin Mitchell and Milan Tojagic and Ron Garrett and Mel Todd with a halved match against Paul Barnett and Mike Hunsley. The handicap committee has been asked to review Paul’s handicap as a result! All the matches have been great fun and I thank each one of the players for their company and generosity towards the Captain’s charity. There’s still time to get your name down if you fancy your chances!
On a similar note, and just by way of something different I propose to hold a Captains Xmas AM – AM on (Mad) Friday 17th December 2021 with a 9 o’clock shotgun start open to all members. As usual, there may be the odd twist but the emphasis is purely on having a bit of fun before Xmas and the shotgun start will hopefully see the clubhouse full allowing everybody to get together before Xmas. I appreciate it’s a Friday and many of you will still be working but it was just proving difficult to fit it in on a weekend. Normal competition fees will apply but I might throw an additional prize or two in too. I apologise in advance to those groups who normally play on a Friday morning but I would hope you all join in.
An entry sheet will be posted in the professional shop from 9 am on Friday 19th November 2021.
Thanks for reading, happy golfing!
Shaun.
