Captain’s Newsletter 9-12-21

As Christmas approaches, I just wanted to give a few updates to you all of the developments around the club and send a reminder of upcoming events that will perhaps provide a bit of fun and get you out of the house over the festive period.

There are still a few tee times available for my Xmas AM Am on Friday 17th December 2021. It’s a shotgun start at 9 am and is open to all members so it would be good to get some members playing in a competition that don’t usually play on a weekend. The entry sheet is in the pro shop so don’t hang about and get your names down if you haven’t already. I introduced this competition simply as a means for members to be able to have a bit of fun and get together in the club afterwards, restrictions permitting of course!

It would be great to see a few of our new members playing and is a great opportunity to meet. The entry fee is the usual £3.50 with prizes being distributed as normal to your shop accounts but there will be a prize-giving immediately following the golf when I will be giving some additional prizes out. I understand that some members may be a little uneasy going into a busy clubhouse in view of recent announcements so don’t worry if this is the case, any prizes will be left for collection in the pro shop.

As well as the AM-AM, don’t forget the unique Par 3 comp which is always popular and great fun. For those who haven’t played in this before, I recommend it as it gives an opportunity to play the course in a way you haven’t seen before! As usual Chris Elvidge will circulate details nearer the time.

I am sure you will all have watched with interest the ongoing developments around the course. These are the first 4 holes to be changed following the engagement of architect Jonathan Gaunt. I would just like to congratulate our greens team for the great work done during adverse weather. Their efforts, along with contractor Martin Crompton, have seen the initial work completed within five days as opposed to the predicted ten days resulting in a significant saving against the budgeted work. Thank you also to all members who played whilst the works were ongoing for their patience and understanding and keeping everyone safe whilst working.

Finally, the end of December sees our professional shop and the Marne Restaurant lose popular staff member Natalie who is moving on to pursue other opportunities. Natalie has only been at the Golf club a relatively short time and will be a big loss to Paul, Shane and Chrissie. Please take the opportunity to pass on your best wishes to Natalie before she leaves.

Cheers
Shaun.
