As EGGS Captain I was delighted with the turnout for my Spring away day held at Filey Golf Club on 28th March. Thanks to Filey for allowing us to visit under the auspices of the Snainton Reciprocal agreement and congratulations to our winner on the day John Atkinson who walked away with The Mally Johnson Trophy pipping Graham Grimes on countback!
The EGGS section has been delighted to welcome an influx of new members since Spring and is thriving again as we attempt to field teams of up to 16 players (sometimes twice per week ) to fulfil our fixture list, which this season includes home and away matches at Malton and Norton Golf Club thanks to the efforts of our fixture Guru Barrie Reuben.
At the time of writing, I am proud to reveal that the Seasonal Over 60s Stableford events I inaugurated have been well received with the spring event taking place on 11th April and the Summer event recently completed on 11th July. Both days were well attended and my congratulations go to the prizewinners in each of the various age categories. Please get involved if you haven’t already done so and look out for Andrew Webster’s email ahead of the Autumn event scheduled for Monday 10th October.
The EGGS fixture list has now been more than half completed and we have enjoyed some spectacular weather and away days at other regional courses. This season there has been a shift in emphasis by most clubs away from traditional match play with the more sociable am-am format being adopted by clubs to promote camaraderie.
My Captain’s Summer away day event is being held at Elsham Golf Club on Thursday 4th August and is open to all EGGS members for a subsidised fee of £30 including coffee and bacon rolls on arrival plus a meal afterwards. The event is open to non-EGGS at a price of £45pp. EGGS membership for 2022 is £10 so you can work this one out for yourselves?
All paid-up members of the EGGS are eligible to attend these fixtures and events and membership for 2022 remains open and available to Beverley and East Riding Golf Club members (over 55s) for an annual fee of £10.
If social golf on Monday and Thursday mornings could work for you or if you would like the opportunity to meet and play with like-minded senior golfers here at Beverley then the EGGS are waiting to welcome you! As an EGG you will also have the opportunity to visit and play golf at an array of different golf courses in our region and beyond. Days out are on a reciprocal basis and typically include 18 holes of golf with a meal afterwards. This typically costs £10 to £12 – fantastic value!
