Captain’s Newsletter 22-09-21

I would like to start by congratulating the scratch team who on Sunday became ERUGC scratch team champions, beating Ganstead 2-1 at Ganton with a team of Mike Robson, Rich Norton and Dave Jackson also not forgetting Jamie Gill who played in the semi-final. This is a great achievement for the club well done to all those who represented the Club in the scratch league throughout the year.

For me personally, it has been a busy month with my Captain’s away day/weekend at Breadsall Priory. This was enjoyed by 36 golfers playing a better ball on the Sunday followed by dinner and a live draw for the AM AM on the Monday.

Also, I have had my Captain’s invitation day again 36 Captains, Vice Captains and special guests playing golf then a dinner and presentation on the evening. A good day/night was had by all. A special mention to Shane and Chrissie – the food was excellent and I have had great feedback from everyone who attended.

I am hoping that work on the men’s locker room will soon be taking place. I believe this is important in retaining our growing membership in what looks like a challenging year ahead due to the current financial situation.

A big well done to my Vice Captain Ben Gardiner who has managed to get full teams out in all inter-club matches this summer although we still need players for our final home match against Withernsea next Friday 30 September. If you fancy a friendly competitive game followed by a meal please get in touch.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Will Brown, a popular member of the Club. I wish to pass my condolences to his family and the Club will provide details of the funeral when they are known.
