This week’s newsletter is for once dedicated to all matters golf and it’s great to report some good news.
Rich Norton competed in the English Seniors Strokeplay down in Hampshire and finished a creditable 18th on courses which, I understand didn’t particularly suit Rich’s game.
Nonetheless, it’s great to see Rich performing well at these events and representing Beverley and East Riding Golf Club around the country-long may that continue!
This week also saw Rich team up with Mike Robson and Neil Burnley to represent the club in the Y.UG.C Division 4 Team Championship at Middlesbrough and it’s pleasing to report they came 5th from 18 teams, gaining promotion to Division 3 in the process. It was only a couple of dropped shots later in the day that prevented them from building on a promising start and finishing even higher.
The scratch league team also gained victory by 2 to 1 in their fixture with Hornsea B so a great start for them also.
Last night saw one of our teams in the Annodata Cup come out victorious by 3 to 2 against a strong Scarborough SC team. Very well done to Pat Howdle, Mark Page, Phil Worthington, Jon Sewell and Keith Milhench on a notable victory.
Last but by no means least, last Tuesday saw the return of interclub matches with a home fixture against Cave Castle. Whilst these fixtures are primarily social golf it’s nice to report a 6 nil victory in a team consisting of five former Captains and four new members to the club. These are always good fun to play in and I would urge anyone to have a go in these fixtures. The lists are posted on the board in the pro shop or contact Vice Captain Pat Howdle.
Finally, a thank you to the greens staff once again for presenting the course so well in recent difficult conditions and to Shane and Chrissie for the catering. Our visitors in each of the games above have been extremely complimentary about the course and the hospitality afforded to them.
Thanks for reading and enjoy the good weather!
